Retired Hounds

When a hound’s useful life with the pack is over it is retired at the kennel or adopted out.
Whether a hound stays at the kennel or goes to an outside home depends on its suitability for outside life
and the availability of an adoptive family. Many retired hounds make excellent family dogs.

Some of our retired hounds are shown below.

Justice and Jailor are retired at the kennel. Yard dog life suits them well. They enjoy helping the huntsman move things around the property, walking out with the pack for hound work, snoozing in the sun or the shade and keeping an eye on things. The boys are part of the durable, hard working J litter.

Montgomery joins Justice and Jailor as a kennel yard dog.  He was effective in the field and a compliment to the front running bitches.

Aspen lives happily with a family that includes other dogs and cats. She enjoys lounging on her bed by the fireplace, joining the family in THEIR beds and time outdoors. Aspen was a dependable hunting hound and is the dam of our B litter.

Scurry is described by her adoptive family as a spoiled house dog that loves to go on walks with her pal The Blue Dog (the family’s blue heeler), nap in sun beams, and watch chick flicks on the sofa with her lady human. They add that they’ve learned that she hates loud noises, will come back if she gets out, was naturally house trained and that she is generous with love and companionship. Scurry was a keen hunting hound but lacked bidability so she was retired early.

Trinket and Thistle spent some happy years together with their adoptive family until Thistle’s recent death. Trinket carries on enjoying their favorite things which include sleeping, eating, air conditioning, walks and family life with other dogs and cats. Both hounds were workmanlike in the pack, a quality much valued by huntsmen.

Bandera leads a leisurely life with her family.  She is a fine companion to her adult humans and baby and enjoys indoor and outdoor life equally. Bandera retired from hunting while still a young hound. She found it hard to integrate into the pack.
